Limitless storage space, no more tapes, fastest data recovery
CloudArray and VDR provide simple, fast and secure off-site backup for VMware environments to your choice of cloud storage providers
- Simple: CloudArray interfaces natively to VDR
- Efficient: Data reduction and only changes sent over the network
- Secure: Data encrypted at-rest and in-flight
- Fast: CloudArray cache or local copy for fast restores
- Available: CloudArray snapshots create additional copies in the cloud
One of the most common headaches for VMware administrators is backup. With many VM’s running on an ESX/ESXi host, you don’t want them all consuming system resources to push backup data to a traditional backup server. VCB is one possible answer, but it requires a substantial investment in Backup Application software, and a Tape or local B2D (Backup to Disk) solution to manage.
With the arrival of vSphere you have the no-charge option of using VDR to backup VM images to disk using changed track updates with a native data reduction capability.
When combined with CloudArray from TwinStrata, the B2D is actually done to a CloudArray volume and stored at a remote Cloud Service Provider (or to your own Private Cloud infrastructure). This Hybrid solution is best termed B2D2C.
After the first Deduplicated image backup completes, only Dedupli-cated changed track data is sent to the CloudArray device. This saves both bandwidth and remote storage requirements. VDR also supports both full and file level recovery of your VM images, adding flexibility to the restore process. Additionally, every backup instance is retrievable from set points, so you have a choice of restore points to choose from just as in a traditional backup scenario.
Faster Restores
With CloudArray, you have the option to maintain a full local copy in CloudArray cache, or a partial copy. The advantage of maintaining a full local copy is that you will never have to go to cloud storage to retrieve your backed up VM's unless you have a major site disruption.
Additional Data Protection
With CloudArray, you have the option to take snapshots in the cloud, thus preserving older restore points and allowing you to maintain the consistency of the backup set in the event something happens to your on-line copy. In-cloud, zero-footprint snapshots create additional point-in time data copies with minimal additional capacity, no performance overhead and no additional data transfers to the cloud.
Security and Compliance
CloudArray offers policies to both encrypt data in-flight and at-rest to provide maximum security while enabling the cost benefits of public networks and cloud providers. With at-rest encryption, CloudArray encrypts data prior to transporting it to public cloud storage to ensure data security and privacy. CloudArray leverages the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), adopted by the U.S. government and also used to secure top secret information.
Smarter Off-site Backup
For companies that are using tape systems or disk-to-disk backup for data protection in their VMware environment, they can now select CloudArray as the target backup solution, either in conjunction with their existing VMware backup solution or with VDR. CloudArray eliminates all the logistics and costs typically associated with media transport or tape vaulting services and does not require large capital investments in infrastructure whenever expansion is required.
Operational Efficiency
With CloudArray, data storage is available on-demand from a limitless storage pool. Because data volumes are thin-provisioned, companies only pay for what they use. Companies can instantly respond to changing business requirements via an adaptable infrastructure by adding or removing storage resources as needed. Storage cloud infrastructures eliminate barriers and streamline IT operational processes that exist today.
CloudArray Packaging
CloudArray is available in several configurations to meet customer needs and requirements. It is available in a virtual appliance supporting VMware vSphere. It is also available in a physical appliance for customers that want a dedicated physical server to run CloudArray.
The combined solution provides easy Backup to Disk with remote replication for disaster recovery and business continuity purposes.
Together, VDR and CloudArray deliver a powerful Cloud Based Remote Backup and Recovery solution for your VMware environment.
